Clear aligners are a series of custom-made mouthguards that fit over your teeth to move them into their new positions over time gently. At Tava Dentistry, the aligners are made of strong plastic material that is virtually invisible, so most people will not even know you are wearing them!
Each aligner shifts your teeth in smaller increments, moving them gradually until you reach your final alignment goal. You will wear each set of aligners for two weeks at a time before switching to the next set in the series – this means you will only have to come in for occasional checkups with us to monitor your progress!
Some malocclusions are caused by medical conditions such as cleft palates or conditions involving abnormal growth patterns. These cases require specialized orthodontic care as they require the expertise of an orthodontics doctor. However, they can often be corrected using clear aligners. Typically, a specialist will design a treatment plan for patients to follow while using their aligner system at home. This allows the specialist to monitor the treatment and ensure it is progressing as it should.
Finally, there are cases where an adult patient never had orthodontic treatment as a child. In this case, they may find that their teeth have shifted out of alignment. This can cause bite problems and other uncomfortable symptoms. Once again, clear aligners can be an ideal treatment option for patients. Younger patients who do not wear their aligner trays as directed often discover that straightening their teeth requires a more extended treatment plan and usually costs more overall.
Clear aligners are not only comfortable to wear, but they also work fast! Compared to traditional braces, clear aligners are much less noticeable and more comfortable for patients. Most patients forget they are even wearing their aligners!
Because aligners are made of smooth plastic, they do not irritate the soft tissue of the cheeks, gums, or tongue like metal brackets and wires can. This makes them an excellent treatment option for patients who are self-conscious about traditional braces' appearance.
Since there are no dietary restrictions with Invisalign, your eating habits can stay the same during treatment. Remove your current aligners before eating a meal, then replace them afterward. As you replace each tray, your teeth gradually shift into place until you are left with a beautifully straight smile.
